I believe it's military because of all the insignias and designs. It could have been a wealthy person who was very patriotic. There is a lot of Latin words and the date of 1780. I don't think it's probably that old but maybe it was a memorial of that date or something. If you have any information please let me know. No idea what metal this is made out of but beautiful.
